Spanking Instruments - Birch
A is the Isle of Man Punishment Birch.
This is a very powerful instrument and until recently was used on the Isle of Man for Birching young men. It is 40 inches(100 cms) long and has four or five twigs bound tightly together..For young than 15 years a cane was used. Here is a quotation from an Isle of Man publication.
We now know, though it was not announced at the time, that to mark the change a completely different kind of birch was invented -- some say by Constable Henry Corlett, who often had the job of administering it. It consisted of four or five long and fairly stout hazel branches bound tightly together at one end.
The number of strokes varied between four and seven according to the heniousnes of the crime.
The young man removed his trousers and was fastened over a bench or held down in position while his bare bum was exposed. There was a doctor and magistrate present and the young man could ask for his parents. the strokes were applied by a police constable and all accounts by young thugs who have been birched comment on the pain that they endured.
The one I show is a true replica of those used as will be seen from the picture of one in the hands of a police constable.
B This is the general Spanking Birch
This is shorter shorter than the punishment birch and has many more twigs fastened at the top end. Normally the twigs of birch are collected to make the birch so that a fresh one is used each time. Usually the buds are removed as, if they are still in place, when they strike they will often draw blood. This birch can be used in either a punishment - without to much pain - or in a sensuous and erotic way. When I use it I will give twelve strokes.
C Lathe Birch
This is an unusual one which I bought from an American company. It has two dozen thin lathes fastened at the top. It is very much a 'manufactured' rather than a 'natural' birchand has a very fifferent effect to the natural ones. I find that it can be used for a long session as it acts differently.to the others.
